Website design process

Our step by step process for designing and developing websites.

Step 1 - Initial meeting

The first step is to arrange an online meeting (Zoom, Teams, Google call etc.) to outline the project, mark out the key aims and select pricing plans. At the first meeting I will bring along a list of questions to help me to understand your needs, and a web contract for all party's to sign.

Step 2 - Web design

Web design is one of the key aspects to every project. I will begin with laying out key ideas on paper and then transforming those ideas into a reality. During this stage I will be working closely with you. Ensuring we produce effective designs aimed at your target audience.

Step 3 - Sign off and final updates

After the web designs are completed, I will send over the files for you to review. This is a chance for you to tell me what works and what doesn’t. It is a lot easier to make updates to the design at this stage than at the end. When both party's are happy with the design, we will move on to development.

Step 4 - Website development

Depending on the size of the project, web development usually takes between 1 to 3 weeks. I use Webflow to build all of my websites which allows for custom features such as animation and forms.

Step 5 - Website testing

Once we are happy that the entire site is developed I will do a full test to ensure all users receive the same high-quality experience. See our free website review plan for a full list of items I check.

Step 6 - Go live, hosting and SEO

The exciting part. Before go live you will be given the chance to review the website in a test environment. We will then decide on a go live date and launch the website. Following this I will use an online tool to make sure your site begins to appear in search results.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, I can help assist you transferring an old domain or a domain you have purchased to the new website. I will also setup redirects so customers with old links will still be able to find your website.

Can I add to the requirements of a package?

I am pretty flexible, contact me today to talk discuss your specific requirements.

Can I update the site myself after it is built?

I do not recommend that you update the site yourself, I provide free web support with our hosting packages to update or make any required changes. However after I have built the site, you have full ownership and will be able to make edits.

How do you build the site?

I use various tools to help us to design and build sites. I design our websites in Figma, which allows us to collaborate efficiently. My websites are developed using Webflow, this is a great tool allowing us to build custom features whilst keeping high speeds and performance.

How long does it take to build a site?

The length of time required to build a site can vary depending on the requirements. As part of our quote stage, you will be given a timeline outlining the key deadlines throughout the project. A website will usually take between 2 and 6 weeks from initial meeting to go live.

How do we communicate through the build?

Communication is very important to me and the web design process. You will be provided with my personal email address and phone number. One to one calls with also be arranged at the vital parts of the build so you are fully aware of the progress.

Do I need hosting?

Yes, you will require hosting. I provide hosting services at the best prices available. However if you wish to host the site elsewhere, I can provide the site files as you will have full ownership of the site.

What will happen to my old website?

You will not require your old site after the new one is built. I will keep the old one live until the new site is ready to replace it. I can then help transfer domains and setup redirects for your old urls to the new ones so no customers will get lost.

Will you maintain the site for me?

I offer web support and maintenance as part of our advanced hosting packages.
